01 / MY STORY
The long
walk home.
Sobriety began September 17, 2017.
There was a time when everything I owned fit into a trash bag.
After years of drug and alcohol use, I was living out of my car, separated from the people I loved, and struggling to see a way forward. My daughters meant everything to me, but rebuilding their trust would take more than saying I was done.
One night, sick and exhausted, I left a Salvation Army shelter and tried to walk to my mother’s home. I had no phone, no money, and dress shoes on my feet. The rain came. I stopped to rest, prayed, and kept walking.
That walk became part of a much longer journey—through rehabilitation, serious illness, and the difficult work of learning to listen to what I had spent so long avoiding.
I share my story because someone else may recognize a piece of their own in it. I want them to know there can still be a way forward.
